The photograph on this card features a football manufactured in the 1930's. Robert S Don made footballs, soccer & rugby balls, amongst other things, from a factory in Minnie St Brunswick in Victoria. 

The card is matt laminated, 350gsm & when folded measures 15cm x 15cm. It comes with an accompanying envelope & protective plastic wrapper. (Image shows back of card at right).

The design ifeatures three beautifully weathered vintage Australian football boots last worn in the 1970’s.

The artwork features the backs of 20 vintage Australian football jumpers. These designs were commonplace in leagues throughout Australia in the 1970's & '80's.

Football clubs & nicknames go together like bread & butter; always have, always will. When you join a club you get a nickname, warranted or otherwise. The process is a right of passage, signalling to the recipient an acceptance of sorts within the team.  Tradition dictates that your 'nicknamer' will initially try to add a 'y' to your surname or first name. This severely worn Australian football is reminiscent of those kicked around by kids in the '70's. Back then a brand new proper footy wasn't really on the agenda. For most a second-hand well worn footy like this was the best you could hope for. The lifespan of these footies was epic - they seemed to last an entire childhood; being kicked, marked & handballed for years on end. Such was their use that the manufacturer's logo & associated markings would be worn off, the ball's bladder would have undergone at least one replacement & the lacing would eventually start to undo & fray. This card pays homage to all those marvellous footballs kicked in backyards right across the country in the 1970's.

Dry Area denotes a section in the famous Sherrin Stand at Victoria Park Collingwood in which, (like other VFL grounds at the time), the consumption of alcohol by patrons was prohibited.
